The Bacterial Vaccines department is working on the discovery and early development of novel vaccines for bacterial infectious diseases. It strives to address unmet medical needs, such as bacteremia (sepsis), meningitis, and respiratory tract and nosocomial infections. Projects are primarily structured on scientific and technical collaboration with external biotechnology partners (governmental and industrial) that are innovative leaders in their field.
De functie / The role
As Scientist Protein Purification you will work for a major vaccine project in focused on the glycoconjugation technology. You support the development of new conjugation methods, which you will do without day-to-day supervision, and this is combined with the supervision of downstream processing of glycoconjugates. Furthermore, you will interact with other teams and support department.
You supervise a small team of (Sr.) Technicians and together you will perform experiments to further strengthen the development of carbohydrate/peptide-protein conjugates. It is expected that you work on the lab for most of the time. In addition, you act as an expert on characterisation of glycoproteins and you are responsible for reviewing the progress at a hired CRO.
Het profiel / Your profile
For this position a PhD in Bio-Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering or equivalent. A MSc with several years of experience (5+) is also welcome to apply. In addition, you have gained several years of experience afterwards, where industrial experience in considered an advantages. During your work, you have gained experience with carbohydrates, proteins and glycoproteins and you are able to do reactions, such as labelling and modifications. Hands-on experience on characterisation is highly valuable. Knowledge of drafting process descriptions, SOPs and flow diagrams is desirable.
As a person you are communicative and a real teamplayer. People come to you with their questions. You are able to empower team members and motivate them to do their best. You are strong in documentation and publishing your results. Planning and organisation are a second nature to you. Accuracy and efficiency are part of your daily routine. Finally, you are available fulltime and Dutch is considered a plus. If you have knowledge of Chemdraw, this is also a plus.
Het aanbod / The offer
You will get the chance of working in an international environment, where you can develop brand-new technologies to be used worldwide. This will be done on a contract with Hays. You will work at the client through "detachering". The salary is based on you previous experiences, secondary benefits include 24 days of holiday and your travel expenses covered. Finally, this position will start with a project for 1 year, but long-term possibilities are anticipated.
